Rollins, Spektor in support of Record Store Day

It depresses me to drive through a city as populated as Los Angeles and only see one physical record store -- Amoeba Records. Sure they have a ton of imports, vinyl, cheap DVDs and so forth but I miss the days in which every block had a FYE, Tower Records or an independent music shop with rare posters and incense.

Those of you who share my pain will rejoice on April 19, 2008. Being crowned Record Store Day, all independent record stores will collectively celebrate in their communities with special events at their shops.

A ton of musicians have already spoken out on the Record Store Day Web site in support of the cause.

“I have watched independent record stores evaporate all over America and Europe. That's why I go into as many as I can and buy records whenever possible. If we lose the independent record store, we lose big. Every time you buy your records at one of these places, it's a blow to the empire,” says Henry Rollins.

“I just really love anything that’s not faceless and where people know each other and work together to build, like, a community. People that work there know their stuff; they’re not coming in today to sell music and tomorrow to sell TVs and the next day to sell whatever," Regina Spektor explains.

Are you in support of Record Store Day? Do you buy your music exclusively on the Interent? Post your thoughts in the comments below!

yes yes yes! i miss cd's :( and the cd sections in electronics stores keep getting smaller and smaller. but i still insist on buying the actual cd, not just download it, though some are hard to find...

Record Store Day sounsd amazing! I'm the type that always has to buy the physical CD of the bands I really love. It's sad to see that technology's going a little over board...

I buy my music everywhere, but I love going into record stores and looking at everything. Especially actual vinyl records.

Seriously.
There is only one record store in my town, and they barely sells anything good.
Yeah it's FYE, but all they have is pop and rap(not exactly my style).

Viva la record revolution!

If my town had a record store left I would celebrate, but the last one closed 2 years ago.

well having an FYE and a tower records on every block would be horrible since they're type of chain music stores that drove out indie shops in the first place.

I had good luck at finding hard to find imports and stuff at Tower Records. Too bad the one in Chicago closed down.
