Back in the Day: From First to Last, others share fond memories of Outkast's 'Hey Ya!'![]() It's hard to believe that it's been five years since Outkast first released their hit single "Hey Ya!" and demanded we "Shake it like a Polaroid picture." The Grammy-winning track is featured on The Love Below — Andre 3000's part of their 2003 Speakerboxxx/The Love Below double disc. The video is a riff on The Beatles' performance on "The Ed Sullivan Show," complete with Andre 3000 playing the part of all the bandmembers. The appeal of the song stretches to fans of all different genres of music. "Hey Ya!" was a huge success across multiple genres. The group took home four trophies for the music video at the 2004 MTV Music Video Awards and the song itself reached # 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, Top 40 Mainstream and even Top 40 tracks. Another single from Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, "The Way You Move," made its way to the top of the Billboard Top 100 but didn't receive as much commercial success. Here's what Aaron Rothe (Sonny, ex-Drop Dead Gorgeous), and members of From First to Last and No One Goes Home had to say about the dance-tastic track: Aaron Rothe: "I hate that song! They talk so fast that I can't understand a word and lyrics are important to me. "Hey Ya!" means nothing to me and now it's stuck in my head!" Travis Richter of From First to Last: "The song seriously makes my heart glow with happiness only obtainable from a healthy dose of soul food and Southern hospitality. When I am at the club and that song comes on I dance so hard that people can't even get near me." Craig Broombaugh of No One Goes Home: "The only song in history that can pull of the phrase 'What's cooler than being cool? Ice cold!'" Are you still a fan of Outkast's "Hey Ya!"? Did you never like the song? Discuss in the comments below!
