Mariah Carey Is #1 Again, Puts the Smack-Down on Leona Lewis, Ashlee Simpson

Mariah is on "fiah" once again. The pop legend is still holding her own on the top of the Billboard 200 chart for the second week in a row with her album E=MC2. Carey is well on her way to a platinum record, having sold 128,000 copies of her album this week, with a combined total of 646,000 sold in just two weeks.

English pop star Leona Lewis took the #2 spot for her album Spirit, with 96,000 records sold. Spirit has been out for three weeks and has sold a total of 396,000 copies. Although impressive, she has a long way to go if she wants to knock Mariah Carey out of the top!

Flight of the Conchords shockingly debuted at #3 with their self-titled album, moving 52,000 units. Quite an accomplishment for a TV parody group from New Zealand! Poor Ashlee Simpson struggled behind at #4 with only 47,000 records sold of release for her new album, Bittersweet World, in the first week. Most artists would be pleased with selling this much, but Simpson has to be feeling the pressure — her last two records debuted at #1.

Hip-hop duo Atmosphere have returned to the scene with their sixth full-length album, When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Sh-- Gold. Debuting at #5 with 37,000 records sold, it was obvious that their fans were eager for their return. The forever-popular Now That's What I Call Music series is once again a hit, coming in at #6 with 27, selling 32,000 copies in its seventh week with a total of 584,000 records sold in all. Who's buying these!?

The movie "Juno" was quite the hit — and so is the soundtrack. Coming in at #7 with 31,000 sold this week, Kimya Dawson, The Kinks and Buddy Holly have helped the soundtrack sell a whopping 674,000 copies thus far. Meanwhile, George Strait helped bring country music to the chart, coming in at #8 with his album Troubadour and selling a respectable 29,000 for the week.

Rounding up the top 10 for week are 18-year-old country singer Taylor Swift at #9 with her self-titled album (27,000 copies sold this week) and 43-year-old country singer Phil Vassar at #10 with his album Prayer of a Common Man (27,000 copies sold this week).

And where do our favorite rock bands fit into the equation for the week?

Story of the Year
debuted at #18, with their album The Black Swan selling 21,000 copies. Panic at the Disco have dropped to #33, with their album Pretty. Odd. only pushing 13,000 albums this week, and after 46 weeks on the charts, Paramore's Riot! sold another 9,000 copies.

Will anyone be able to knock Mariah off her throne next week?

I love Mariah & am happy that she's able to sell records when the market is overwhelmed with so much competition and torrents. Story has really been pushing & promoting this album so I'm glad they sold a decent amount. I don't really see the craze over PATD as I did about 2 years ago, I wonder what happened??? It seemed that everywhere I went 2 yrs ago, I heard their songs or someone was talking about them or some magazine was hyping them as band of the year. And Paramore is just awesome.

I'm rather surprised at the low amount of sales on Ashlee's new album. I quite liked it though I didn't go pick it up. She has plenty of fans. I'm starting to get the feeling that cd sales will increasingly decline in the next few years because of internet downloads becoming so prevalent. It's sad.
