Cute Is What We Aim For have announced their brand-new bass player — and it's someone you've seen them perform with before ...



Singer/songwriter Dave Melillo, who has been playing rhythm guitar for Cute's live show since Warped Tour 2007, will now be playing bass for the band. Melillo is the third musician to hold the position – or fourth, if you include the fact that bassist Fred Cimato has left the band twice.

On Tuesday, Singer Shaant Hacikyan posted a statement on CIWWAF's Web site explaining the decision to add Melillo to the fold:

"Dave took us out on our first tour ever while the band was unsigned, and we then returned the favor by touring together three more times, including our first [headlining trek] in the U.K. Working with Dave has allowed us to feel comfortable and confident in making music. He was the missing piece to the puzzle that is Cute, so to speak. So, with Dave along for the ride, this time we stepped up and made a point to take in account everything we have learned in these three short years of being a touring band.

Hacikyan also spilled some on CIWWAF's upcoming release, Rotation, which is due June 24. He admitted that it's taking a lot longer than the band's first effort, 2006's The Same Old Blood Rush With a New Touch, and talked about working with producer John Feldmann, who has produced groups like Good Charlotte and The Used when he isn't busy with his band, Goldfinger.

"Attention to detail was a main focus," Hacikyan said. "Our debut took three weeks to make ... Rotation, took three months. This time around, we took our time and followed through. We took chances and did things that we never thought we'd do. We had the opportunity to work with some amazing people ... [Feldmann] really set the bar high and inspired us to leap over it with no fear of clearance. ... The ending result is Rotation, an assortment of 11 songs that represent the progress and changes that we have undergone or seen, whether it be internal, emotional, political or global over the last few years.
