Rollins, Spektor in support of Record Store Day
It depresses me to drive through a city as populated as Los Angeles and only see one physical record store -- Amoeba Records. Sure they have a ton of imports, vinyl, cheap DVDs and so forth but I miss the days in which every block had a FYE, Tower Records or an independent music shop with rare posters and incense. After revealing Foxboro Hot Tubs to the world I promised to keep this one a secret.
Now that tickets are officially sold out I can reveal that Pinhead Gunpowder will be performing at Chain Reaction in Anaheim, CA on Feb 3 and The Troubadour on Feb 4. Pinhead Gunpowder have been around since 1991 and features both Billie Joe of Green Day and Jason White on vocals. They have released 5 albums since 1994 and a ton of vinyl that I own. To this very day not that many Green Day fans know about these classic albums that I have listened to as religiously as my Green Day records the past 14 years. The band hasn't played live since 2001 and at the time I was in college and couldn't fly across the country to see their one show in San Fran....Now it's in my backyard! Catch the Dengue Fever!
Dengue Fever are a rare breed. Their music is part psychedelic rock and part Cambodian pop music.
The six-piece have been doing their thing since 2001 and have put out two full length albums since then. The first album was actually sung in Khmer which is the language of Cambodia. Their new record Venus On Earth is out on January 22 and the band is touring throughout the US to spread the love and they are also the subject of a documentary on 2005's Bon Om Thook water festival called Sleepwalking Through the Mekong. January 19, 2008The law of the movie theater
So I ordered tickets to Cloverfield for Friday night at 8:30pm in Century City.
I got home from Buzznet at around 6 and showered/ate dinner. By the time we found a parking spot at the movies it was already 8:10pm. The theater was half empty but we were unable to get ANY seats because every person there was saving 4-6 seats for their friends who had not shown up yet. Is this fair? Can a few people be allowed to show up 2 hours early to see a movie and let their friends come 3 minutes before it starts -- yet I order tickets online and can't even see the movie? I saw Teeth instead. So nasty! --DJ Rossstar
