PlayRadioPlay!'s Texas actually makes me dance: Buzznet album review

After listening to the first few seconds of PlayRadioPlay!’s opening track "Texas", off the album of the same name, I was instantly reminded of another Texan musician by the name of The Secret Handshake. I am a fan of The Secret Handshake’s mix of indie and electronica so I decided to give PlayRadioPlay! a shot.

Now I am definitely not a fan of dance music. I have no clue how to dance like a human being but I appreciate the people who mix indie and electro music because it’s unique and the songs can be fun to sing along to. As I made my way through track two I got the urge to bust out some of my awful dance moves. You can't simply sit still while listening to tunes like this.

Three songs into Texas, I found myself laughing over the cheesiness of the lyrics. I felt bad writing that until I found a quote from PRP singer Daniel Hunter himself, in which he said himself, “I like putting stupid beats together with corny lyrics and dancing like a fool in front of groups of people.” They may be corny but I am sure almost every teen can relate to some of them as well. "It's six a.m. and ice cream is the first thing on my list and pets improves our kisses after so many misses," from the song Madi Don't Leave, is a great example of how Hunter mixes cute with cheese. Looks like my description was fairly accurate as Hunter does have some serious songs on the album as well. You can feel raw emotion in a few of the tracks which I find impressive.

Overall, the album does have its high points but can be repetitive at times. Some of the songs sound quite similar and I didn’t really find any of the chorus’ that memorable. However, the mood of the album fits perfectly to play during a house party, driving in your car, getting ready to drive in your car to a house party or even when you’re just cruising the Web! Fans of electronica and pop-culture references will have a field day listening to Texas. Stand out tracks: "I’m a Pirate", "You’re a Princess", "See You Sooon" and "My Attendance Is Bad But My Intentions Are Good".

The Used Apologies

Thursday night's interview with The Used was filled with technical difficulties. It started with Idobi Radio not being able to load my show properly. After 15 minutes of failed success, we decided to move the show to Stickam. I put up an away message to direct people to the video feed but not enough people noticed it. To top things off, the band posted a Myspace bulletin to their 400k friends about it and Myspace bulletins were down! No one got the message until it was too late! I apologize again! I host my show on Idobi Radio but I don't control the software. HOWEVER, we did film the whole interview for Buzznet and that should be up soon.

The Lives of Famous Men will be calling in next Thursday since they were unable to on Thursday and both Strung Out and Death By Stereo will be in studio!

Hope you are having a great weekend! If you want to come meet me tonight, I will be attending this event below.
