Earthquake!

I just survive my first earthquake since living in Los Angeles. At 11:42 a.m. the entire Buzznet office began to shake. My desk is right near the window (the worst place to be during an earthquake), so I quickly ran into the hallway as the entire building continued to move back and forth. I have to be honest ... it was pretty scary. I ran down six flights of stairs, along with everyone else in the building, and made it to safety! All the live shots you are seeing on TV and online are taking two buildings over from where I am ... so I was right in the middle of it all!

Live Shows in the '90s vs. Today

Last night I went to see Less Than Jake and Goldfinger at the Wiltern in Hollywood. I've been a huge fan of both bands for over 12 years and I can't remember a time that I missed either of their shows when they came to town. Going to shows in the '90s, all my favorite bands put on fun and energetic performances (Reel Big Fish, Suicide Machines) ... and the ones that are still around continue to do so. As usual, Goldfinger and Less Than Jake did not disappoint the packed crowd last night.

It's 2008 and I can honestly say that the majority of up-and-coming-bands don't give 110% into their live performances. With bands like Green Day and Rancid, you get an insane amount of crowd interaction ... you actually feel like you are part of the show and have made a real connection with the band on stage. Without naming names, shows I attend nowadays make me feel like I am watching a band who isn't giving it their all ... there is little-to-no stage movement or humor and no extended/alternative versions of their songs, all of which make a show unique and different from just listening to the band's album at home.

Once again, I am not saying that EVERY band who is 25-and-under puts on a boring performance (The Matches and Story of the Year for example), I just wish some of the others would watch the greats and take some notes from them. Maybe this is why Goldfinger and Less Than Jake are around so many years after other rock bands have come and gone ...

Do you agree with me? In your opinion, what bands put on the best live show?

After Reading Your Comments on My Dark Knight Review ...

I was driving home last night from hosting Havoc on the 101 (DirecTV show) at 3 a.m., when I was pulled over by a cop. I was on the freeway and a giant truck was about to merge into my lane. To be safe, I decided to move over not one, but two lanes, to make sure the truck didn't collide with me. A few seconds later an officer told me to get off the next exit and park after the first stop light. As the cop approached the window, I had no clue as to why I was being pulled over.

The cop explained to be that because I crossed over two lanes, it gave off the impression that I was drunk. I assured him that I was simply coming from doing my DirecTV show and had nothing to drink but he still made me take the 'follow my finger with your eyes' test ... which I obviously passed. I was then set free!

After reading all of your comments on my "Dark Knight" review, I must say that I am happy that the majority of you have the decency to respect my opinion, even if you disagree with it. However, I received an overwhelming amount of comments telling me that I was wrong for not praising the film and for pointing out its flaws.

I wanted to clear something up with everyone. I didn't say that "The Dark Knight" was the worst movie I have ever seen ... because it wasn't ... far from it actually. I said it was overrated, much like "Napoleon Dynamite" and "Juno." Just because I didn't agree with the majority of society, it shouldn't mean that I am an 'idiot' and whatever else was written about me.

I could have easily said that The Dark Knight was great and lived up to the hype, just to fit in with everyone else, but that's not who I am. I speak from my own mind and hopefully you can respect me for that. There are close to 50 horror films that I love that I am sure even aliens would say are terrible pieces of cinema; but that doesn't mean I am going to stop myself from sharing my positive feedback on them with anyone who wants to listen.

As a result on your negative comments, I have to quote The Joker by asking ..."Why so serious?" It's only a movie ...
